My current job involves… working closely with Retirement Plan Committees on creating retirement plans that are customized to the company’s needs and help the employees gain financial stability in their lives.  I get to help plan sponsors with developing strategy and process around the investments, plan design, education, and plan costs in the corporate retirement plan.

My first job in the retirement industry was… at John Hancock Retirement Plan Services as an internal wholesaler.  When I took that position, I had no clue it would lead me to the career and passion I have today.

I first learned about WiPN… through LinkedIn and seeing several women in the industry involved that inspire me.  This led me down the rabbit hole of researching what WiPN is trying to accomplish for women in the retirement plan industry.  And once I read that, how could I not want to join?!?

I love the retirement industry because… I get to help Americans everyday become more financially well, educated, and secure.  Every day I go to work, I know I am making a difference in helping solve the retirement crisis that is upon us if we don’t start creating more financially prepared Americans.

WiPN has had a positive impact on my career because… I have gotten to build meaningful relationships with many women in the Atlanta community and nationally. It’s helping me build a group of smart, inspiring women I can lean on for support and have as a sounding board for new ideas.

Other women should join WiPN because… it’s a great way to:

  • Meet other women passionate about the same industry issues
  • Get further education on growing your career/practice
  • Connect with others that face similar challenges

More women would get involved in the retirement industry if…. I think sometimes people outside the retirement and investment industries see the field as “all about the Benjamins” and helping only the wealthy. I see the retirement industry as an amazing industry for those that want to help others, for those that want to make a big impact in our society.

Every life decision a person makes somehow ties back to their finances. The school you send your kids to is impacted by money.  The vacation you take, the house you live in, if your kids can go to college… all impacted by money. The relationship someone has with their spouse and family members is heavily impacted by their finances. The more financially educated and financially prepared a person is, the less stress the person will have.  And, there will be less negative impact on their health and relationships.

Our industry is about empowering people, educating others, and helping others become financially independent and strong.  I think that needs to be communicated better to women outside the retirement industry.

I wish I’d known years ago that… some of my best work and ideas come when I block quiet time on my calendar for myself that can’t be interrupted by email or calls.

I’d love people to ask me about… Work related= Employers helping Americans with student debt and retirement at the same time

Fun related= Anything food, because I LOVE to cook and to dine out.  You won’t catch me heading into a movie theatre because I struggle to sit quiet that long.

When I’m not working I am… either snuggling with my boxer pup (Finley) or sharing loud laughs and a meal with my main man (husband Ryan).

One thing every woman should do at least once in their life is… take a vacation somewhere and completely disconnect from all email and phone calls for several days.  The knot in your stomach will go away after the first day or two.  Work and home will survive without you. And, the connections and experiences with your travel companion will be so much deeper and meaningful with your true attention.  I try to do this at least once a year.
