Hartford Chapter – Breakfast with Junior Achievement of Southwest New England

On May 3rd, 2023, the Hartford chapter gathered to support Junior Achievement of Southwest New England at the JA Partners of Achievement Breakfast. This nonprofit organization empowers young individuals in our area to develop financial literacy, career readiness, and leadership abilities. During the event, we had the privilege of hearing from exceptional students and educators who have benefited from Junior Achievement’s programs.

It was an excellent occasion to connect with others and demonstrate our commitment to the betterment of our youth. The experience was truly uplifting and left us feeling energized and inspired!

Hartford Chapter – Hike at Talcott Mountain

On October 11th, 2022, the Hartford chapter got outdoors for a fun evening hike at the beautiful Talcott Mountain in Simsbury, CT. The fall foliage made for spectacular panoramic views of the Farmington River Valley and neighboring states. Everyone enjoyed the adventure to the top of the mountain, followed by a relaxing picnic at the historic Heublein Tower before heading back down. (Fun fact – The Heublein Tower was built in 1914 by Gilbert Heublein – the same creator of A-1 Sauce and Smirnoff Vodka!)

The fresh air, breathtaking views, and conversations confirmed to be good for the soul!

Thank you to everyone who attended! The Hartford chapter plans to make this an annual hike.

Hartford Chapter – United Way’s Women United Power of the Purse

On June 16th, 2022, the Hartford chapter and Marsh McLennan Agency gathered at the Hartford Convention Center for a wonderful fund-raising event, United Way’s Women United Power of the Purse.

The excitement started with a silent auction of luxury handbags, gift baskets, restaurant gift cards, and more. Our lovely WIPN member from Marsh McLennan Agency, Melissa Beagle, took home a new DeWalt drill!

The remarkable keynote speaker, Rev. Nontombi Naomi Tutu – Race, Gender & Human Rights Activist, gave a beautiful, uplifting speech on women empowerment. “Encourage women to believe in themselves”.

WIPN Hartford, Marsh McLennan Agency, and hundreds of area professionals in greater Hartford helped raise over $270,000! Proceeds will support programs and collaborations that help families get on the pathway to a financially secure future; connect individuals with skills and training for jobs in our region as well as provide the financial services and supports to achieve their goals.

We also acknowledged Ariel Stein’s contributions to the growth of WIPN’s Hartford Chapter as she officially handed the co-chair baton over to Rebecca LaVallee.

A huge thank you to Marsh McLennan Agency for sponsoring our event!

November 13, 2019 – Leadership Ambition Redefined

The Hartford WIPN Chapter partnered with Fiduciary Investment Advisors to host an event where our key note speaker, Kathryn Sollmann (author, speaker, coach, and founder of 9 Lives for Women) shared powerful insights from her book “Ambition Redefined:  Why the C Suite is not for Every Woman and What Else to Do Instead”.  We had over 30 members attend and participate in a very engaging dialogue.  Kathryn captured the key points from our event in her blog.

Huge thanks to Greg Seaver of Hartford Funds, Alan Valenca of T Rowe Price, and Tom O’Connell of Wells Fargo for sponsoring our event!

Hartford Chapter – Show up Courageously Event

On June 14, 2018, at the VOYA Campus in Windsor, Connecticut, Lisa Parker of Heads Up Coaching taught us to “Show Up Courageously” while owning the room in the process.  She gave examples of
how we could overcome our fears and position ourselves to get outside of our
comfort zone.  Members engaged in conversations at their group tables and
shared stories about situations where they were challenged to get outside of
their comfort zone in various scenarios.

Hartford Chapter – Foodshare Community Giving Event

On December 12, 2018, the Hartford Regional Chapter partnered with a local non-profit, Foodshare, to help our neighbors get the food they need this past holiday season. WIPN members helped sort and package food at the Foodshare location in Bloomfield Connecticut. We were incredibly impressed by this experience as we joined weekly volunteers that donate their time to help sort through thousands of pounds of locally donated meat to be distributed in the Connecticut area. Our 12 volunteers were able to pack over 4,350 pounds of meat for Foodshare during our event!

We would like to give a huge thank you to Kim Zook, a weekly volunteer at Foodshare, for helping our chapter organize this awesome event!

As we look forward towards our next year, we are very excited to put together an exciting and engaging schedule of events for the WIPN Hartford Chapter. Please check back regularly to see our coming events!

Hartford Chapter – Sip and Sculpt Wellness Event

On October 30, 2018, the Hartford Regional Chapter hosted a “Sip & Sculpt” event. WIPN Hartford Chapter joined forces with Hog River Brewery and Hartford Sweat to put together a unique wellness event – a personal Barre Class with a fun, networking edge.

Our instructor Lauren, from Hartford Sweat, delivered on their brand’s name and the WIPN ladies sweat it out using the Brewery as our Barre Classroom. Everyone had a wonderful time getting their exercise in, followed by a much appreciated glass of locally brewed and locally owned craft beer provided by Hog River Brewery. As we relaxed and networked after our hard work, we continued to make new connections with our WIPN friends.

Thank you to our wonderful sponsors – PIMCO & Wells Fargo for making this event a reality for us! (A special Shout Out to Monica from PIMCO for bringing us all water bottles that surely came in handy during our Barre Class!)

WIPN Hartford Chapter Co-Chairs are Lisa Buffington of Marsh& McLennan Agency and Ariel Stein of Argentum Financial Partners.

WIPN Hartford Chapter – Power Pose Painting Event Recap

On February 21st, the Hartford Regional Chapter hosted a “Power Pose Painting” event. The pictures capture the true essence of the event — the fun, the inspiration, the laughs, and most of all – the meaningful networking connections that were made!  Special thanks to our sponsors: Prudential, Ivy Funds, Neuberger Berman and Lincoln Financial.

The networking event included “Power Pose Strategies” from Amy Cuddy’s top-rated Ted Talk, followed by an instructor-led “Strike Your Power Pose” discussion. Noteworthy highlights of Amy’s Ted Talk included:

  • Non-verbal behavior is a powerful form of communication: ie. expressions, posture, eye contact
  • People determine how strong, how confident, how knowledgeable, how likable you are based on “how you show up” with your body language
  • Your audience will also predict a related outcome based on your non-verbal behavior (you’ll win or lose, they will or will not do business with you, they will or will not trust you to lead a key project……)
  • Slight physiological changes can make you feel more power or lead through a position of power (power poses require you to look more open or expansive)
  • Power Poses demonstrate a sense of victory, undeniable confidence or competence; that you appear disinhibited and open to growth

The next event of the WIPN Hartford Chapter will be held on Thursday, May 24th from 5:00-7:00. Lisa Parker of Heads Up Coaching will be the keynote speaker. This will be a members-only event.

WIPN Hartford Chapter Co-Chairs are Lisa Buffington of Prudential and Ariel Stein of Argentum Financial Partners.
